What is
Neuro-Somatic Meditation?

Introduction
Traditional meditation tells us to sit still and be silent. But for restless minds, this can feel like being trapped in your own thoughts—leading to frustration, shutdown, or even a freeze response.
At Ibasho Mindfulness, we do things differently. Each of our sessions integrates Neuro-Somatic Meditation—using movement, breath, and rhythm to help your mind and body find calm, naturally.
Neuro-Somatic Meditation is a body-based approach to meditation that integrates movement, breath, and rhythm to help regulate the nervous system. Unlike traditional meditation, which often emphasizes stillness and silence, neuro-somatic meditation engages the body to create a more accessible and effective experience—especially for those with restless minds or dysregulated nervous systems.
01
Movement
Gentle rocking, swaying, or rhythmic gestures to discharge excess energy and settle the nervous system.
03
Rhythm & Sound
Using drumming, humming, or sound therapy to guide brainwaves into meditative states.
02
Breathwork
Intentional breathing patterns to shift from stress (fight-or-flight) to relaxation (rest-and-digest).
04
Somatic Awareness
Tuning into body sensations rather than trying to "empty the mind."
How It Works
Because meditation isn’t about forcing stillness—it’s about finding your way home.

Brainwave Entrainment
Activates brainwave entrainment, shifting the brain from high-beta (stress) into alpha and theta states (meditative calm).

Nervous System Regulation
Supports nervous system regulation, helping with anxiety, trauma, and chronic stress.

Balanced Approach
Encourages a bottom-up approach, where healing starts in the body rather than forcing the mind to be still.
